Mill Bluff State Park
State Park Information
State Park Overview
Travelers passing through the Mill Bluff State Park area are intrigued by the unusual, tall bluffs rising abruptly from the flat plain. Straddling Monroe and Juneau Counties - Camp Douglas, Wisconsin, the park offers popular swimming, camping, hiking, or relaxing opportunities.
Camping and shelter reservations are open from Memorial Day into September. Day use is open year-round. For shelter reservations, please call Mill Bluff (608) 427-6692 from May 20 into September, or during the off-season call Wildcat Mountain State Park at (608) 337-4775.
Camping
Mill Bluff State Park has 21 wooded or partially wooded family campsites. (See the campground map.) Six electrical hook-ups are available. Sites # 7 and 10 through 21 are very flat and accessible. The park has pit toilets and hand pumps, no showers.
Reservations may be made up to 11 months in advance by calling toll-free (888) 947-2757.
Trails
The Nature Trail begins at the far end of the east picnic area. This .4-mile-long trail is a self-guiding. Hikers will learn about wildlife, trees, wildflowers and geology. Part of this trail is accessible for people with disabilities. A historical marker here describes the geological features of the area.
For the more ambitious, stone steps wind their way to the top of the bluff. In the mid 1930s, the Work Progress Administration (WPA) built 223 stone steps that lead to the top of Mill Bluff, where an observation deck on the north end offers an excellent view of the park and the surrounding area.
Swimming
A pond with 2.5 acres of clear cool water from underground springs and 250 feet of white sand beach is available for public swimming. Changing stalls are available. Dont swim alone or at night. Lifeguards are not provided at any time.
No fishing is allowed in the pond.
